'East of Eden' is set in the Salinas Valley of California in the late 19th century. The novel follows the Trask family, whose members are haunted by the sins of their ancestors. About the Author

John Steinbeck was born in Salinas, California, in 1902. He wrote over thirty novels, short stories, and non-fiction books. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1962. Steinbeck's work is known for its realism, its compassion for the poor and oppressed, and its lyrical and evocative writing style.

Steinbeck died in New York City in 1968. He is buried in Salinas, California.
