Mack's journey to becoming a Master Sommelier began in his hometown of Washington, D.C., where he was first introduced to fine wine by his father. By the age of 16, he was working as a wine steward at a local restaurant, and by 18, he had enrolled in the prestigious Court of Master Sommeliers program. The program is known for its rigorous curriculum and challenging exams, and Mack was determined to succeed.
Over the next few years, Mack dedicated himself to his studies, spending countless hours reading, tasting, and practicing. He also worked at several top restaurants in New York City, including Eleven Madison Park and Le Bernardin, where he honed his skills under the tutelage of some of the world's best sommeliers.
In 2012, at the age of 23, Mack passed the Master Sommelier exam, becoming the youngest American ever to earn the title. Since then, he has gone on to become one of the most respected sommeliers in the world, working as the wine director at the critically acclaimed restaurant Per Se and serving as a judge on the popular television show "Iron Chef America."
In his book, Mack shares his insights into the world of wine and offers advice for aspiring sommeliers. He also tells the story of his own journey, from his early days as a wine steward to his triumph as a Master Sommelier. This is a must-read for anyone who loves wine, food, or hospitality.
